ACTIVITIES
Slovenia is the navel of Europe where four geographical regions come together in a very small area: the Alpine, Mediterranean, Pannonian and Dinaric. The Alpine area with Kranjska Gora as the center of this region offers diverse opportunities for sports recreational activities throughout the year. Due to the pleasant environment, quality air, beautiful mountain scenery and the great choice of hiking trails with different difficulty levels, everyone can find something for himself.
SUMMER ACTIVITIES
Summer activities start when the last snow melts and they end in autumn. The Upper Sava Valley offers countless possibilities, ranging from hiking, mountaineering, climbing, cycling, rolling, playing golf, picking mushrooms, fishing, adrenaline sports, wellness and much more. (https://www.gps-tour.info/)
Hiking and mountaineering
We have a wide network of hiking paths and mountain trails of all difficulty levels. There are many starting points and directions. You can choose between the mountain area of Vitranc and Ciprnik, Vršič, Karavanke, Špik Mountain Group, mountains of Kepa, Vošca or Dovška Baba and much more. Wherever the journey takes you, you will certainly not regret it!
Cycling
Cycling in the Upper Sava Valley is becoming one of the most popular sports and tourist activities. Due to the relatively small altitude differences, many excursion points are available for recreational cyclists: from the Radovna valley to Planica, cycling under the North Triglav wall, into the valleys of Kot and Krma and where else.
Through the whole valley, a national cycling route takes you to Italy,to Tarvisio, to Austria till the town of Villach and to the Austrian lakes.
If you have good condition you can pass over Vršič, the highest Slovenian pass and proceed down to the Bovec valley or across the pass of Korensko sedlo/Wurzenpass in direction to Villach. The bicycle park offers enjoyment in mountain free style and the adrenaline descent over tables, jumps, swings and other obstacles (www.bikepark.si).
Mountain cycling in nature can be experienced following the RobeTwist (18 km long mountain path) in the Karavanke Mountains.
Adrenaline sports
If you are an adrenaline enthusiast, you must not lose the chance of the climbing opportunities offered by the valley. Nearby on Grančišče above Mojstrana there are two different demanding attractive protected paths-ferati. Ferata Hvadnik is a climbing path going through a geological specialty – the wild gorge of the Hvadnik stream in Gozd Martuljek. You can also practice climbing on the artificial climbing wall in Gozd Martuljek.
For adrenaline pleasures, you can also take advantage of:
- zipline in Planica
- windmill in Planica
- summer sledding with Besna Pehta
- paragliding
- and more …
Swimming
In the summer, the natural bathing place in the lake of Jasna invites you to refresh yourself.
WINTER ACTIVITIES
Winter joys start with the December opening of the ski season and last until the events in Planica in March. They offer a variety of sports and recreational activities from skiing, surfing, cross-country skiing, skating, sledging, snowshoeing to ice climbing.
Skiing and surfing
The winter season brings joy on the snow. Ski lifts and ski tracks are located on the slopes of Vitranc all the way from Kranjska Gora to Planica at an altitude of 800 m to 1215 m. Ski resorts, suitable for both beginners and good skiers and especially for families are connected by the system of 5 chair lifts and 13 ski lifts accessible from the village. Kranjska Gora is naturally famous for the annual Vitranc Cup which takes place on one of the ski tracks. To this steep slope are invited only the best skiers. In Kranjska Gora there is also the possibility of night skiing. Special attention is also paid to families, as a ski kindergarten is organized.
Cross-country skiing
For cross-country skiing enthusiasts, around 40 km of carefully maintained tracks are located in the area of Kranjska Gora, all the way from Gozd Martuljek to Tamar. Those who want more can visit the cross-country ski center in Rateče (classic, skating). On the flat surface at the border crossing, easier tracks have been prepared and better cross-country skiers can proceed towards Planica and into the beautiful Tamar Valley. From Rateče to Tamar the tracks rise by 260 meters altitude and are about 7 km long.
Very popular is also a more plane link Kranjska Gora – Rateče (classic, skating). In Kranjska Gora there is also an illuminated circular track for night recreation.
Sledding and skating
You can sledge on the marked sledding slopes and on those separated from the ski slopes but you can take part in organized (night) sledding as well and also in other winter joys organized by a local travel agency. Ice skating is provided in the center of Kranjska Gora on an artificial ice rink, but you can catch the beautiful days of ice skating also on the Jasna Lake or on the lake in Rateče.
